Who is behind it
MetaSpotter is made by the MetaSpotter team, part of VanguardIA (SOLUCIONES IA PROCURSA SAS, Querétaro, Mexico), the company responsible for the app and your data under the privacy policy. The guides on this site are checked by hand, before they are published, by a long-time GeoGuessr player on the team.
MetaSpotter is an independent project: it is not affiliated with GeoGuessr, Google or Learnable Meta.
Where the clues come from
We do not make up metas. Every clue comes from the maps the community publishes on Learnable Meta, an open-source project (AGPL licence), and many of them are in turn based on the Plonk It guides. Most decks match one of those maps, and the deck page names its author and source map; the "everything about a country" decks gather metas from several maps. Card photos are Google Street View captures (© Google) from those same maps.
What AI does and what we check
We use AI in several steps, and we would rather say so:
- Turning each meta into a card. From the original note, a language model writes the question and the short explanation, and picks the countries offered as choices. Another model then reviewed every card looking for mistakes. That is how the 14,516 cards in 359 decks were made.
- Translating. The app and the cards come in 11 languages. The French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, Japanese and Korean translations were made by AI and have not yet been reviewed by a native speaker.
- Illustrating. Deck covers and the illustrations on this site are AI-generated. Card photos are not: they come from Street View.
What AI does not do: make up metas, since every one comes from a community map, or publish guides on this site without a person who plays checking them.
If you find a mistake
With this many cards, some will be wrong or out of date, because Street View coverage changes. Write to [email protected] with the deck and the card, and we fix it by hand. If the mistake comes from the source map, we let its author know.
